AACN Essentials Evidence

AACN Essentials evidence from the work your students already do

Students record a conversation or a skill, in the skills lab, in simulation, or in clinical placement. Each score is saved with the activity it belongs to, so the evidence for your self-study is already on file before anyone sits down to write it. Built by nursing faculty, for nursing faculty.

01 Your competencies

Your program decides the competencies. NurseKind AI supplies the evidence.

The competencies a recording counts toward come from your own course objectives and curriculum mapping, linked to the activity. We do not hand you a fixed list to fit your curriculum around.

Your objectives

Start from the course, not from our list

Your course objectives and mapping say which competencies an assignment is meant to evidence.

Linked to the activity

Each recording is evidence for its activity

A student records the conversation or skill assigned for that activity, and the score is saved with it.

Scored on your rubric

Faculty set the standard

Each activity is scored from your rubric and mapped to the AACN Essentials, course outcomes, and program outcomes indicated in your syllabus. Faculty review every result.

02 Why now

CCNE's 2026 Standards take effect January 1, 2027

Those standards cite the 2026 AACN Essentials. Every program with a self-study due for a 2027 visit is already writing to them. Evidence that has been accumulating since the semester started is a different position to write from than one built the month before a site visit.

03 Any recorded encounter

One record, wherever the student practices.

A recording from the skills lab, a simulation, a standardized patient, or a clinical placement is scored on the same rubric and lands in the same record. Students can also rehearse a hard conversation first in Practice mode, with no grade attached.

04 Why the compliance matters here

When a recording includes patient information, HIPAA applies

Recordings made in clinical placements can include real patient information. NurseKind AI is HIPAA-compliant, a BAA is available, and every processor that could touch a recording is covered under it. That is part of why the record holds up when a site visitor asks how the program knows.

05 The evidence chain

From a recording to a self-study paragraph

Four steps, and a faculty admin controls all of them from the Accreditation Evidence tab.

Always current

Every encounter adds to the record as it happens

No spreadsheet, no folder that sits untouched between site visits. The score is saved with the activity as soon as the recording is scored.

Cohort report

An AACN Domains Evidence Report for any date range or course

Competency summary, rating distribution, and a per-student appendix that links to that student's own assessment history, exportable as CSV or PDF.

Faculty review

A reviewed attestation on the record that needs one

A faculty member can mark an encounter reviewed, with an optional note, and can adjust the overall score with a reason on the record. The original AI score is always kept. The review shows on the PDF and in the cohort report, and the report counts adjusted scores, because CCNE holds faculty responsible for evaluation, not software.

Self-study paragraph

A paste-ready paragraph, not a blank page

The Evidence Report writes a paragraph naming the competencies, the encounter and student counts, and the percentage meeting threshold, ready to paste into your self-study.

06 FAQ

Questions about AACN evidence

It follows your program. The competencies come from your own course objectives and mapping, linked to the activity the student recorded. Recordings are scored against the AACN Essentials rubric and any custom criteria your program adds, and the score is saved with the activity.
CCNE asks programs to document how students attain the Essentials competencies, and it allows a variety of mechanisms. What NurseKind AI gives a program is a defensible, observed record: every score comes from a timestamped recording, scored against the same rubric and reviewed by faculty, instead of a self-attested log.
A student records the conversation or skill assigned for an activity. NurseKind AI scores it against the AACN Essentials rubric and the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Model, and the score is saved with the activity. A faculty admin pulls a cohort AACN Domains Evidence Report for any date range or course, with a competency summary, a per-student appendix, CSV export, and a paste-ready paragraph for the self-study document.
Yes. A recording from a simulation, a skills lab, a standardized patient, or a clinical placement is scored on the same rubric and saved in the same record. Whether it counts toward a given competency is your program's call, set by your course objectives and mapping.
Yes. The platform is used across ADN, BSN, MSN, and DNP programs, with rubric calibration appropriate to each level. Every program gets the same evidence chain: recording, scored by your rubric, cohort report.
